The 6th Trans-European Dialogue (TED) took place in Potsdam, Germany from 6-8 February 2013 on the theme: Education and Training in the European Public Sector.
TED6 focussed on issues of education and training in public administration throughout Europe. Education and training is one of the core issues for ensuring the future institutional capacity of public administration and for stabilising the future availability of qualified human resources. Although the Bologna reforms have achieved some streamlining of formal educational structures, there is still a high degree of diversity between educational programmes and concepts in the field of public administration education.
The conference provided the participants with the opportunity to explore current trends in both academic and professional education and training and to discuss different educational approaches. Participants debated about curriculum development, teaching methods and new experiences with quality assurance.
They also explored the status of “Bologna”-reforms (e.g. experiences with the new two-level education system of BA and MA degrees). From a cross-European view, the degree of convergence of educational structures in Public Administration programmes was another point of discussion.
